MARIKA ROSSA (Kiev, Ukraine)
The name of Marika Rossa, one of the most extraordinary representatives of Ukrainian dance scene, can be frequently seen on major European line-ups and at the top of Beatport charts. This talented girl is already one of the most recognizable eastern European techno DJs and part of a new breed of developing producers making a massive impact in her country's history.
In recent times Marika has been prolific, releasing many dance floor singles and remixes on Italo Business, Crunch Control, Audio Elite, Naughty Pills, DSR Digital, Dolma Records, Pragmatik Recordings, Naked Lunch and Elektrax Recordings.
In april 2015 she started her own label, named «Fresh Cut», having the first release charted on Beatport Hardtechno/Hardcore top 100 just in a week’s time!
And then we looked to the north, and saw a real stallwart of the Dutch technoscene..
BAS MOOY (Mord, Audio Assault, Rotterdam, NL)
Rotterdam home-based dj/producer Bas Mooy (1976) has been active on many fronts in the techno scene since 1999. Heavily influenced by a city that breaths industrial strength twenty-fourseven, he gradually found his way into creating an unique dark sound, which lead him to the forefront of the European techno scene.
In 2002 he kickstarted the already legendary Audio Assault record label with label partner Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial, which resulted in the birth of sublabel Arms one year later. Since then the Audio Assault family built a strong and constantly growing fan-base worldwide, showcasing an impressive catalogue with a constant output of stand out twelve inches, setting the standard for today’s quality dark techno.
For many years he has been a member of the Rotterdam underground collective ‘Strictly Techno’, creators of over a hundred legendary parties since 1996. Bas has played at many ‘top of the bill’ clubs and festivals around the globe and is a regular guest at the highly respected Awakenings parties in Holland.
Over the years Bas has been a hard working and devoted producer, spending many hours in the studio and putting out music on respected labels such as Mote Evolver, Perc Trax, CLR, Sleaze Records, Planet Rhythm and of course his own imprints Audio Assault and Mord. With the current rise of Mord, Bas shows no sign of slowing down!
MENDOZA (Aftrwht, Pure Techno)
Mendoza started hitting the decks about 11 years ago. Hanging around at local techno parties like Technomite and meeting local nice guys Twieq and Fik quickly made him decide to spin some plastic himself. And plastic it sure was, as vinyl ruled those days.
Mendoza thereby is one of those rare youngsters who learned the craft using just a pair of decks and a mixer. No sync, no laptop, no software, only passion and perseverance. This fact, however, is what makes him stand out of the crowd nowadays. Technically high skilled, he finds it very important to proper build up his set, carefully chosing the right tunes for the right moment, combining a feel for the dancefloor with an exquisite taste in music.
Johannes Heil, The Advent, Mr G, Octave One, Jeff Mills, … provide him with the beats he likes the most. Amongst his favourite dj’s are Gary Beck, Mark Broom, The Advent and of coz, master of three deck wizardry, Ben Sims.
I may be no surprise then, you don’t have to expect fierce and brutal techno from Mendoza. This guy serves you some detroit grooves with some tribal, old skool bleeps, blending it all together in an “old meets new” ultra shakeable assault on your dancin’ feet.
He performs alone, or does b2b sets with J.Kops and besides bein’ a pretty in demand dj, he also runs, together with Dimster and Twieq, his own night, called Pure Techno. Quite a busy guy, don’t you think?
Oh, and did we allready mention he makes one hell of a fine fishsoup too?
So if you see him on a line up somewhere, make an effort, go and have a listen, and get ready to be Mendozalised ;-)
